Jamaican interest: an interesting George III, large goblet with a pedestal foot, decorated with a band of gadrooning, the bowl engraved on one side, with the coat of arms of Jamaica, within a roundel, bordered by the motto 'ECCE ALIUM FAMOS PORREXIT IN ORBEM NEC STEBILLS EST CRUX', the other side of the bowl inscribed 'THE PLANTERS, MERCHANTS AND OTHER INHABITANTS, of the Parish of Saint James, and town of Montego Bay in the Island of Jamaica, present this cup to Captain James Thomson of the ship Anne of Glasgow. For his valuable services in the months of June and July 1805, by fitting up, and Mooring the ANNE, as one of the Defence ships for the protection of Montego Bay at a time when the island was under an alarm from the proximity of the TOULON and CADIZ SQUADRONS', makers mark distorted, 'RC' or 'RG', London 1805, 7.6in (19.4cm), 16.5oz.
