A George III oval nutmeg grater, plain, the base engraved with two zig-zag strips (one to hide the flush hinge), the cover inscribed 'BARWICK*', by either John Hutson or James Hyde, London 1795 (no date letter), 2in (5cm) long, 1.5oz. *Barwick could be a variety of place (ie Somerset, Norfolk, Essex, Yorkshire). It could also be a corruption of another related place name (ie Berrick, Berwick, Burwick), all derived from the Old English meaning 'Barley farm', it could even be a (relatively unusual) family name, ie the Barwick family of Norfolk).
