A Queen Anne circular armorial snuff box, with moulded borders, the cover rotating around a central rivet, with a cut-out aperture to take a 'pinch' of snuff, the base with an engraved crest of arms, the cover with crest, motto "Je Vous Defende" and the name "Herris Dykes .EHAL", the interior cover with engraved cypher and date "1713", unmarked, c. 1713, 3in (7.6cm) diameter, 2.75oz.
