By Hester Bateman: A George III bright-engraved oval tea caddy, with bead borders, a rising, domed cover with vase finial and engraved coat of arms*, London 1785, 5.5in (14cm) high, 12oz. *The arms are those of Hicks impaling Whitcombe, for Sir William Hicks 7th Baronet (1754-1834) who married firstly in 1785 Judith, 3rd daughter and co-heir of Edward Whitcombe Esq or Orleton and secondly, in 1793, Anne Rachel, eldest daughter of Thomas Lobb-Shute Esq of The Vine. He succeeded his father in 1801, and was in turn succeeded by his great nephew.
