A small George II rectangular inkstand, on four bracket feet, with a central baluster handle and pen depression, fitted with a cylindrical inkwell and sander and central taperstick, maker's mark, London 1728, 5 3/8in (13.6cm), 7oz. Mrs How notes that although there is no maker's mark on this piece, there is an identical inkstand of 1727, in a private collection with the unregistered maker's mark IBA in conjunction with full London hallmarks, and a much larger example of the same form in the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, USA
