A George IV large salver, of shaped circular outline on four large foliate shell feet, with a cast border of husks and floral scrolls and flat-chased flowers and scrolls, on a malt ground, centred by a large engraved coat of arms, within a floral scroll cartouche, by John Houle, London 1826, 23.5in (59.6cm) diameter, 170oz approx. *For doctor Samuel Butler (1774-1839) who was a very distinguished headmaster of Shrewsbury school and subsequently Bishop of Litchfield and Coventry. He was also grandfather of Samuel Butler, author of Erewhon.
