Earl St. Vincent's Testimony of Approbation

Earl St. Vincent's Testimony of Approbation, silver-gilt medal, 1800, by C. H. Kuchler (from designs by John Flaxman), uniformed bust of St. Vincent left, rev a sailor and officer shake hands, LOYAL AND TRUE, 46mm (BHM 489; BBM [1988] 39). Good very fine but scuff-marks to obverse. 500-600 Awarded by St. Vincent to the crew (Petty Officers and below) of his ship, H.M.S. Ville de Paris, who did not mutiny in the Mediterranean. Standard reference books do not record the medal in silver-gilt, however several examples have been seen in commerce.
