An interesting pair of handmade, early 20th century Monteith bowls, with lion mask and drop ring handles, decorated on each side with an applied plaque depicting the Royal Exchange Assurance building, ships and emblems, linked by a repeating frieze, below four stylised galleons, both inscribed around the foot "From the Court of Directors of the Royal Exchange Assurance on it's bicentenary 22nd June 1920"; one to "J.A. TOMBAZIS"; the other to "H. Ackroyd", unhallmarked but each with an applied roundel under the foot, inscribed"The Stratford upon Avon Applied Art Studios" c.1920, 11.5in (29.5cm) diameter, 122oz.
