Auctioneers triumph in charity football match
7th September 2011Auctioneers, including two of Woolley and Wallis's specialists, were triumphant in a hard fought charity football match against antique dealers last Friday, 2nd September. The Lennox Cato Trophy, an annual event organised by the Antiques Roadshow expert, raises money for Breast Cancer Haven.
Professional rivalry was put to one side as Woolley's Michael Jeffery (20th Century Design) and Jim Gale (Furniture) joined forces with other UK auctioneers to take on the dealers at the Bank of England Sports Club, Roehampton. Both, together with the rest of the team, played with gusto. The score at full time was 3-all but the team's efforts paid off when a tense penalty shoot out resulted in a 5-4 win to the auctioneers.
Two well-known footballing faces in attendance (though not participating) were legendary World Cup referee Graham Poll and Match of the Day 2 regular Kevin Day. This year's event sponsors included the Antiques Trade Gazette and Woolley and Wallis.
