Leading Regional Saleroom for 2016
18th January 2017We are delighted to be the leading regional auctioneers for the ninth year.
The 2016 turnover for the salerooms was £22,900,000 which represents a 67% increase on 2015.
Chairman Paul Viney commented “It’s been a good year with particularly strong contributions from Asian (£4.38m), Jewellery (£3.72m) and Silver (£1.81m). In addition we are delighted with the progress made by two of our newer departments, namely Tribal Art and Arms & Armour, Coins & Medals. Prices seem unaffected by the Brexit vote and we had a remarkable fortnight in the late autumn where our sales had a combined total of £5.7m.
Our overall selling rate (by lot) for the year was 79% which is reasonably satisfactory and once again we were delighted to achieve the highest price of the year for a regional saleroom, namely the Chinese imperial Doucai jar and cover which we sold in November for £820,000.
