Alex Aguilar, Director, Asian Art & Japanese Art Specialist

The directors are delighted to announce the appointment of Alexandra Aguilar to the board in February 2025. Alexandra joined Woolley and Wallis in 2012. She is an Asian Art specialist and Head of the Japanese Art Department, which she founded in 2018.
A familiar sight on the rostrum as a member of the Woolley and Wallis auctioneering team, Alex’s recent Japanese Works of Art sale in November 2024 included a collection of sixty sagemono and netsuke, the highlight of which, a rare boxwood netsuke of Gama Sennin, sold for £42,840 (with buyer’s premium). Strong results were also achieved for historic lots from the home of the 9th Marquis of Waterford of Curraghmore in County Waterford, Ireland.
As well as continuing to hold successful sales, Alexandra is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Art Scholars, appears on the BBC Antiques Roadshow as an Asian Art specialist and will soon be joining a museum board in the South of England.

In addition, it has been a great pleasure to welcome Sandie Maylor as Head of Press since January 2025. Sandie is a director-level press and media relations specialist with 20 years consumer PR experience and good, solid working relationships with journalists across the art, antiques and luxury press. She has a proven track record of attaining press coverage specifically for auction houses and commenting on this she said:
"My penchant is attaining press coverage for all sizes of auction houses, both in the UK and abroad. I enjoy promoting upcoming collections, specific works and raising the profile of auction specialists in the media."
