New Specialist

30th July 2025

It is a great pleasure to welcome picture specialist Richard Kay to the Woolley and Wallis paintings department, bringing with him decades of experience from an impressive career in the art world. Fellow picture specialist Victor Fauvelle said,

“I have known Richard for many years, and like so many in the industry have long admired his knowledge and expertise. His reputation speaks for itself, and I’m delighted he has agreed to join the department.”

Richard read Art History at the University of St Andrews and began his career at Sotheby’s in 1987, working in their salerooms in Chester, Sussex and London for nearly nine years, focusing on British and European pictures and prints. He was then an Associate Director at Phillips Auctioneers where he oversaw picture sales and valuations for the firm in Central Southern England. Richard joined Lawrences in Crewkerne in 1999 and had been a Director there since 2005.

Joining the Woolley and Wallis paintings team from the start of July, Richard is has taken his seat alongside specialists Victor Fauvelle and Ed Beer. Richard is a respected art historian and regular public speaker and has been busy preparing for the upcoming the Old Masters British & European Paintings sale on 3rd of September (catalogue due out in early August).
