Our warmest congratulations to Hannah Farthing for qualifying as Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to become a chartered surveyor in Personal Property/Arts and Antiques (PP/AA).

Qualifying as MRICS requires five years of industry experience as well as a formal assessment and Hannah’s dedication to continued study alongside her professional development has seen her succeed on her first attempt and at the earliest point possible in her career. Hannah first worked in the Paintings department here at Woolley and Wallis and began auctioneering in 2021, before she joined our trainee valuer programme in January 2023, rotating through specialist departments across the business.

“Experience built up over the trainee programme was invaluable when preparing for the RICS assessment. I am extremely grateful to my counsellor Jeremy Lamond MRICS and my seconders, Chairman John Axford MRICS and fellow Sotheby’s Institute alumna Lucy Darlington MRICS, who have been instrumental in guiding me through the process. It has been an exciting journey, and I would love to mentor someone else through this in the future.” Hannah said.

Attaining this qualification has taken a year of hard work and has involved several steps, including the submission of a case study, a statement of experience and a continuing professional development (CPD) log, followed by a final face-to-face exam before a panel of three RICS assessors. Long weekends and evenings spent studying have paid off.

Hannah continues her work in the Valuations department and is currently on the Gem-A Foundation in Gemmology course, due to sit for examination in January 2026.
