Running for a Cause

Medals all round for silver specialist Archie Swann who completed the London Marathon in a Guinness World Record Breaking year, for a cause very close to his heart.

In the midst of a very busy view for the Woolley and Wallis Fine Silver and Objects of Vertu sale last month, silver specialist Archie Swann found time to brave the heat to take part in the TCS London Marathon. Jumping onto a train direct from the Saturday morning view, he returned, still smiling, albeit with a slightly stiffer gait, ready for condition reporting first thing on Monday morning.

Exceeding his initial target, Archie completed the marathon on 27^th April raising £3,536 for Weldmar Hospicecare whose team helped care for his mother, Charlotte, during her terminal illness. Archie’s mum was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) during Covid and was supported by the charity throughout her illness.

“Weldmar Hospice was there for us from the very start of her diagnosis. They supported us with monthly visits, always ensuring mum had the care she needed. And when the time came for her to move to the hospice, Weldmar provided the most compassionate, dignified care for her.”

Archie was one of a team of runners taking part for Weldmar Hospicecare who collectively raised £30,000 towards specialist end of life care in Dorset. The 2025 TCS London Marathon broke the Guinness World Record for the most finishers in a marathon, with 56,640 runners crossing the finish line, reclaiming the crown from New York City where the previous record was set just five months earlier. The London event also established a new world record for the biggest annual one-day fundraising event, exceeding £75 million already raised for charities.

“It was truly an incredible experience for me, the atmosphere in London that day was next to none. I’d never felt anything like it. And to run for the charity that is so close to mine and my family’s heart was even more fulfilling.” Archie said.
