Richard read Art History at the University of St Andrews, beginning his career at Sotheby’s in 1987. For nearly nine years, he worked across their salerooms in Chester, Sussex and London, focusing on British and European pictures and prints. He then became an Associate Director at Phillips, overseeing picture sales and valuations, before joining Lawrences in Crewkerne in 1999. He became a Director of that firm in 2005 and remained there until joining Woolley and Wallis in 2025. Richard is a regular lecturer, sharing his enthusiasm on all aspects of art from Mona Lisa to Modernism. He contributed articles to Antique Collecting magazine for over 25 years.
