A JAPANESE HIRADO GOURD-SHAPED VASE

20TH CENTURY

The body decorated in underglaze blue with a continuous design of ivy running up desiccated tree branches, a six character mark to the base, together with an octagonal moulded bowl painted with butterflies, minogame, fireflies, frogs and a stylised peony to the well, the reverse with prunus, bamboo, chrysanthemum and peonies, unmarked, 22cm. (2)

Provenance: purchased by Mr John Reid c.1945 and thence by descent.
