Chinese Paintings & Calligraphy 字畫

We hold sales twice a year as part of our Asian Art series. Our first sale dedicated solely to Chinese paintings and calligraphy in 2018 confirmed our position as a competitive department, with only 43 lots achieving a total of £2.8 million with a 93% sold rate. The sale included The Northern Girl by Yang Feiyun from the collection of Dame Anita Roddick, which sold on behalf of the Roddick Charitable Foundation for a final price of £1.75 million. In 2019, we sold a large scroll painting by the influential artist Zhang Daqian for £2.64 million including premium, breaking the artist’s previous UK sale record by over £2 million.
