MEIJI 1868-1912

Decorated in red, black and blue lacquer, the superstructure and lower section with an arrangement of hinged and sliding doors and drawers decorated with gold lacquer and inlaid panels with scenes of landscapes, birds, flowers and trees, the central open section with a landscape scene on a black ground, the borders with cranes, lotus, bats and key fret, 116cm x 88cm x 36cm.

Provenance: formerly in the collection of Norman Loudon (d.1967), owner of Shepperton Studios, and thence by family descent.
