A Chinese armorial octagonal plate c.1760, painted with the arms of Maitland quartering Lauder, Earl of Lauderdale, the well with a large spray of European flowers, the rim with floral and ribbon garlands, 22.8cm. Provenance: the Clifford Henderson collection. Purchased at Sotheby's in 1995. This service was made for the 7th Earl, and a large part of it remains at Thirlestane Castle in Berwickshire, the home of the grandson of the 15th Earl of Lauderdale.
