A SMALL CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE MING-STYLE 'FLORAL' MOONFLASK, BAOYUEPING

Each side painted with flowerheads including gardenia, hibiscus, lotus, passion flower and peony amongst scrolling tendrils, the cylindrical neck set with animal-mask handles, with a band of scrolls around the foot, with a wood stand, 22.5cm. (2)

The form and design of this lot is modelled after blue and white moonflasks from the Yongle period. Ming dynasty prototypes were modelled after Central Asian or Persian metallic flasks which first entered China in the Tang period.
