A RARE CHINESE WUCAI 'SANDUO' BOWL

17TH CENTURY

The deep sides flaring towards the slightly everted rim, the exterior painted with leafy fruiting branches of bitter melon, peach and pomegranate forming the auspicious sanduo, three Abundances, the interior with a persimmon branch bearing two fruits, 17cm.

Provenance: from the collection of Mr Charles Sydney Cheston, painter, d.1960, and thence by descent. Recorded in Charles Cheston's 1946 catalogue as purchased for £10.
