A small Raeren stoneware jug

A small Raeren stoneware jug, the onion-shaped body lightly ribbed beneath a straight neck, and raised on a pinched foot, 16th century, small rim and foot chips, 11cm. Cf. David Gaimster, German Stoneware 1200-1900, p.97 for a similar example. Raeren stoneware was widely imported to Southern England in the 16th century, and were found in significant number when the Mary Rose (sunk in 1545) was excavated in the 1970s.
