A mid 16th century German gilt bronze plaque
A mid 16th century German gilt bronze plaque, engraved with the standing figure of Pride (Hoffar) flanked by a horse and a peacock, from a series of the seven deadly sins, perhaps a side of a casket or box, 8.5 x 12.5cm, in a ripple moulded wood frame.
Similar images of 'Hoffar' can be found on 16th century engravings by George Pencz and Hans Burgkmair the Elder.
