A William IV Special Constable's truncheon

£400 - £600

A William IV Special Constable's truncheon, painted with 'IV, W.R. SPECIAL CONSTABLE, 38', on reverse 'P.O.H.G', with a ribbed handle, stamped 'PARKER / HOLBORN', 46cm long.

An extremely rare public office truncheon and believed to be the only recorded example combined with 'SPECIAL CONSTABLE'.

A similar example from the same period, also bearing the initials 'P.O.H.G' and stamped 'PARKER / HOLBORN', but lacking all the remaining painted inscription is described in Cook, but the claim therein that the truncheon "probably dates from the time of George IV would appear to be inaccurate."
