A 19th century French gilt metal mounted casket
A 19th century French gilt metal mounted casket, retailed by Alphonse Giroux, Paris, with a later red velvet cover, the hinged lid centred with a miniature topographical painting of Paris, the interior inscribed 'Alph. Giroux a Paris', containing a section of giltwood with an inscribed paper label 'a piece of the Throne of Louis Philippe which was destroyed in the Revolution of February 1848 and which I obtained at the time of its destruction', together with a posy in relation to the Revolution of February 1848 and other letters and ephemera, 10.4cm high, 18cm wide.
