A fine Italian embroidered silk bed hanging in 17th century Sicilian style, decorated with gilt metal and silver thread, coral beads and garnets with birds, trees, urns of flowers, leopards with collars, on a mottled green and blue field, mounted on a later green felt backing, 19th century either Rome or Sicily, together with a copy of the original receipt, 244 x 188cm.

Provenance: Purchased on 30th October 1901 from Jean Pallotti Antiquaire 3, Rue Rondinelli, Florence by Count Redmond Toler Clayton-Browne Clayton (1863-1937) to furnish his home: Villa La Punta, Cervara, Santa Margherita, Liguria, Italy. Bequeathed to his nephew, Sir Henry Russell Hornby, Bt, (1888-1971), 2nd Baronet of Brookhouse, of Barraclough, Clitheroe, Lancashire and thence by descent.
