Catalogue Note

The original candelabras, from which these took inspiration, are held at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. They were donated to the Ashmolean by Sir Roger Newdigate who bought them directly from Piranesi who in turn took inspiration from Roman marble tripod stands.
