A JAPANESE KYŌ-YAKI HIBACHI (KYOTO-WARE BRAZIER)
EDO/MEIJI, 19TH CENTURY

From the workshop of Kitamura Shoho, the circular body decorated in the style of Ninsei in ink, colour, and gold and silver lacquer, with a continuous design of a bridge spanning a river, with branches of weeping willow overhanging and gold clouds above; a seal mark for Shoho underneath; together with a removable tripod and a tomobako (wood box) inscribed Yanagibashi [..] hibachi (brazier with design of willow bridge), and signed and sealed Shoho saku (made by Shoho), 29.5cm.
