TWO JAPANESE SHONZUI-STYLE FURIDASHI (SWEET JARS AND COVERS)
EDO AND LATER, 18TH CENTURY AND LATER
The first with a tall square-section body painted with various brocade patterns, the lid with a bird-shaped knop, signed Kutani Eiju underneath for Yaguchi Eiju (1870-1952); with a tomobako (wood box) inscribed Shonzui shihō furidashi (four-sided Shonzui-style vessel) and signed Kutani Seiseiken Eiju zo with two red seals; the other of ovoid, hexagonal form painted with leafy tendrils and roundels of geometric patterns, with a flat lid, in a tomobako inscribed Karamono furidashi gata sometsuke tsubo (Chinese-style blue and white jar of furidashi shape); 11cm and 8cm.
