A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE JAPANESE BRONZE ELEPHANT BY SEIKO
MEIJI ERA, 19TH/20TH CENTURY
The majestic animal fending off the attack of three tigers, trampling on one whilst two clamber upon its back, raising its trunk and with its mouth agape, the rough texture of its skin realistically rendered and with a warm patina; signed on its belly Seiko saku; with a wood plinth carved as rockwork, 61cm x 64cm overall.
