£6,000 - £8,000

A PAIR OF JAPANESE BRONZE VASES BY GENRYUSAI SEIYA
MEIJI ERA, 19TH/20TH CENTURY

The charming vessels modelled as a small elephant and a monkey, each playing with a tall trumpet-shaped vase; the elephant holding it in its mouth with its trunk coiled around it, sitting on its haunches and with its head raised; the monkey putting it against his ear; both realistically rendered with the texture of the skin and hair naturalistically cast; each with a rectangular reserve to the underside reading as Seiya chu, both 30cm.
