AN UNUSUAL JAPANESE THREE-CASE WOOD INRŌ
MEIJI ERA, 19TH/20TH CENTURY

Carved to one side with a cat looking up at rats carved at the top of the inrō, the reverse featuring a small cupboard with a moveable door opening to reveal another rodent inside; attached to a wood netsuke modelled as a puppy, the eyes inlaid and with a red tongue, signed Minko underneath, the inrō 8.4cm.
