Great War Distinguished Conduct Medal

A D.C.M. part group of two medals to Armament Staff Sergeant Frederick W. Bowes, Army Ordnance Corps: Distinguished Conduct Medal, George V (553 AMT: S. SJT: F. W. BOWES. A.O.C.), nearly extremely fine with some lustre; 1914-15 Star (T.553 AMT. S. SJT. F. W. BOWES. A.O.C.), some verdigris, otherwise about very fine. [2]

D.C.M. London Gazettes: 01/01/1917 and 13/02/1917

Frederick Bowes entered France on the 3rd of June 1915. He was awarded the D.C.M. for service while attached to 19th Siege Battery R.G.A.:

"For conspicuous devotion to duty. He has performed consistent good work throughout in keeping the guns of the battery in working order, and has at all times set a splendid example."

The timings of the Gazettes suggest that this award was for the Battle of the Somme.
