Captain Bowes Butler-Stoney, Coldstream Guards: an excellent archive of papers and photographs, including: an album of photographs of First World War subject such as Cercotte Camp September 1914, group and individual portraits of officers, candid shots of officer and men in trenches, sandbag parapets, and also holding scraps such as a message directing this officer to stay behind in the lines to assist a relieving battalion with patrols ("[he] knows the ground"), a telegram of December 1917 notifying a "severe gunshot wound" to his leg; Paris Peace Conference 1919: a scarce delegate's folder, the covers bound in gilt and tooled red leather, including much original content, and Captain Butler-Stoney's official leather conference pass; a large quantity of correspondence, including letters from a friend in the diplomatic service giving an interesting insight into Japanese aggression in China in the 1930s; military manuals, a battlefield tour itinerary, loose photographs; personal effect comprising a silver cigarette case, a silver sovereign case, and a wristwatch, and other items.
