Although the inscription on the reverse identifies the sitter as William II, Prince of Orange (1626-1650), the painting is based on a work of an unknown boy by Jacob Adriaensz. Backer, today in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, (inv. no. 2483).
