Part II
Lots 652 - 920

Our September sale features over 400 lots of British and European Old Master and 19th Century Pictures. The sale is led by William Powell Frith's Coming of Age in the Olden Time (lot 574). Painted in 1849, this magnificent picture was the outstanding painting of Frith's career at that time, the culmination of the first phase of his development.

The department prides itself on meticulous research, which has led to several significant discoveries being presented here for the first time, including a coastal landscape by Paul Bril (lot 512), a marine by Willem van de Velde the Younger (lot 520), and Thomas Couture's La Reverie (lot 542).

Other highlights include works by John Atkinson Grimshaw (lot 585), Jacobus Storck (lot 519), Archibald Thorburn (lots 591-592), Robert Lefèvre (lot 543), and P.C. Skovgaard (lot 584). The sale also features a fantastic group of Orientalist works, by artists including David Roberts (lot 557), Frederick Goodall (lot 560) and Alberto Pasini (lot 561).

We are also delighted to offer a group of natural history books from the famed library of Henry Rogers Broughton, 2nd Baron Fairhaven.
