Amongst the highlights of September's sale is The Power Collection (lots 1230-1245), an outstanding group of Old Master paintings assembled by a private collector, mostly in the 1970s, and which have passed by descent to the present owner. They include superb portraits by Nicholaes Maes (lot 1237) and Arthur William Devis (lots 1240 & 1241), four landscapes by Thomas Heeremans (lots 1230-1233), and still lifes by Edwaert Collier (lot 1236) and Antoine Monnoyer (lot 1238).
Consigned from a private collection are six works by the maritime artist Anton Schranz, who lived most of his life in Minorca and Malta, where he found patronage amongst British naval officers (lots 1289-1294). Other highlights include paintings by Allan Ramsay (lot 1258), Sir Godfrey Kneller (lots 1248 & 1335), Marcus Stone (lot 1439) and David Dalby of York (lot 1266). There is also a group of paintings consigned from Redlynch House, a fine period property on the edge of the New Forest (lots 1329-1365).
Highlights of the works on paper section include drawings by artists as diverse as David Teniers II (lot 1081), Alessandro Casolani (lot 1080), and Thomas Rowlandson (lot 1106), in addition to a fascinating album of 41 watercolour sketches of French and Russian figures by the artist, traveller and diplomat Sir Robert Ker Porter (lot 1116). There are also 58 lots of portrait miniatures, led by an exquisite work of 1784 by John Smart (lot 1031).
