Silver & Objects of Vertu - Day 1 - 12th April

The April Silver Sale will take place over two days.

The 12^th and 13^th April Silver and Objects of Vertu auction comprises over 700 lots. Particular highlights include lot 545 a large German parcel-gilt silver nef, estimate £5,000-£7,000. The nef is one of four lots being sold in the auction. For buyers of Scottish silver, lot 616 is a rare Queen Anne Scottish provincial silver thistle cup, by William Scott, Elgin circa 1710, estimate £5,000-7,000.

Offered in the sale are a number of extensive private collections. Firstly, on Day One of the sale is Part 2 of the late Tony Dove collection, comprising mainly flatware, with estimates starting at £100.  Also in Day One are 46 lots of Indian and Ireland related Regimental silver, including The Royal Irish Rifles, Leitrim Militia, Tipperary Militia, Madras Native Infantry, Bengal Infantry and Hyderabad Regiment.

Day two of the sale starts with silver of the late Piers Eric Norwood. A keen buyer of silver across the board, the 43 lots features a James I silver Seal-top spoon, London 1613, estimate £1000-1500 and a George III silver tea caddy, by James Young, London 1783, estimate £1000-1500.  Following on is the Dr Tony Saunders collection of Wine and Sauce Labels, with over 30 lots including a rare pair of 19^th century Channel Islands silver wine labels, by Thomas de Gruchy and John Le Gallais, Jersey, estimate £1000-1500.

Continuing our strong following of early silver spoons, is a private collection which includes three Henry VIII Apostle spoons by William Simpson: lot 617, St James the Greater, London 1538, estimate £6000-8000; lot 619, St. Thomas, London 1533, estimate £6000-8000 and also lot 637, a Maidenhead spoon, probably London 1538, estimate £4000-6000.

Finishing the two-day sale is a private collection of Omar Ramsden, which also includes work from his earlier collaboration with Alwyn Carr.  A particular highlight of the collection is an Arts and Crafts silver tazza, by Omar Ramsden, London 1930, estimate £4000-6000.
