A late-Victorian Regimental silver goblet, 35th (Sikh) Regiment of Bengal Infantry,

by The Mappin Brothers, Sheffield 1896,

circular bowl, engraved with the Regimental badge and inscribed ' L.J. Bradshaw on Promotion 1896', on a raised circular foot, height 16cm, approx. weight 9.9oz.

Laurence Bradshaw was educated at Wellington College before being commissioned into the 25th (King's Own Borderers) Regiment of Foot. By 1885 he had transferred to the Bengal Staff Corps and joined the 24th (Punjab) Regiment of Native Infantry. In 1892 he transferred to the 35th (Sikhs). He was promoted to Captain on 10 September 1896. The regiment took part in the siege of Makaland in 1897, and in World War I were stationed on the North Western Frontier. In 1919 they were involved in the 3rd Afghan War. in 1947 on partition the Regiment was allocated to India.
