A George III Irish provincial Regimental silver Celtic-point pattern salt spoon, Leitrim Militia,
by William Reynolds, Cork circa 1793,
the terminal inscribed 'Leitrim Mess', length 10.2cm, approx. weight 0,2oz.
Raised at Carrick-on-Shannon in 1793 at the Leitrim Militia. Involved in the suppression of the 1798 Irish Rebellion. Re-designated in 1855 as the Leitrim Rifles. In 1881 the Regiment became the 8th Bn The Rifle Brigade. They were disbanded in 1889.
