A George III Irish Regimental silver Fiddle pattern tablespoon, Royal Dublin City Militia,

the reverse of the terminal with the Regimental badge, length 20cm, approx. weight 2.2oz.
Raised in 1793 as the Dublin City Militia, and it took part in the Battle of Vinegar Hill in 1798. In 1813 it was re-designated the 12th or Royal Dublin City Militia. In 1853 the Regiment provided security for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert at the Great Industrial Exhibition in Dublin .As a result the Regiment was retitled The Royal Dublin City (Queen's Own Royal Regiment) of Militia. In 1881 The Regiment became the 4th Bn the TRoyal Dublin Fusiliers. In the 1918 Easter uprising, the 4th Bn fought the rebels along the railway line from Broadstone to Cabra bridge Station. They were disbanded in 1922.
