A George III Irish provincial Regimental silver Celtic Point pattern tablespoon, Royal Downshire Militia,
by John Warner, Cork circa 1790,
the terminal with the regimental badge, length 24cm, approx. weight 2.6oz.
They were raised in 1793, but in 1797 they split into the North and South Down Militias. In 1881 one became the 3rd Bn The Royal Irish Rifles and the other became the 5th Bn the Royal Irish Rifles. Both disbanded in 1953.
