baluster form, scroll handle with traces of wicker binding, gadroon borders, on a raised domed cover with a flame finial, later engraved 'Lynn's Waterloo Hotel' within a strap border, height 23.5cm, approx. weight 14oz.

William Lynn, a Liverpool hotelier, leased the Waterloo Hotel. He became a benefactor of horse racing, and he provided the Waterloo Gold Cup for a flat race at Maghull in 1828. He also established a race at the Aintree course, which went on to be known as the Grand National.
