A modern silver model of a submariner, after Gilbert Ledward,

Gilbert Ledward (1888-1960) was 'one of the almost forgotten' sculptors of the early 20th century in the United Kingdom. He was a professor of sculpture at the Royal Academy of Art, having Henry Moore as his assistant from 1926 to 1929. Ledward sculpted 'The Submariner' after Leading Seaman Reginald Read for the Westminster Abbey Combined Services Memorial for the servicemen who lost their lives in the Second World War, which was unveiled in 1948 by Winston Churchill.
