£500 - £800

Φ By Wally Gilbert, a modern silver beaker,
Birmingham 2006,
cylindrical form with applied stylised wire decoration and set with peridot and citrine cabochons, height 10cm, approx. weight 8.9oz.

Provenance: A Private Collection.
Wally Gilbert studied at the West Sussex School of Art and Design and then at the Chelsea School of Art. He worked initially as a jeweller, and in the later part of his career as a silversmith, based in his workshop in Hereford, he developed a technique of fusing vertical woven wire to the surface of the metal, in combination with adding precious stones to his work. The overall effect is akin to a modern interpretation of a mixture of 19th century Gothic Revival and Arts and Crafts.
