The 25th and 26th January Silver and Objects of Vertu auction comprises 954 lots. Particular highlights include lot 864, a large German silver nef, by Neresheimer of Hanau, with import marks for London 1925, estimate £5,000-£7,000. The nef is one of six being sold in the auction. For buyers of modern silver, lot 701 is a rare parcel-gilt silver musical box, by Stuart Devlin, London 1975, estimate £3,000-4000.
Offered in the sale are a number of extensive private collections. Firstly, to be sold on Day One of the two-day sale, are over 70 lots belonging to the late Tony Dove, with estimates from £100.
Day two of the sale starts with 57 lots from a Devon collector. The interesting and varied collection includes lot 550, a William IV silver stirrup cup modelled as a greyhound head, by G R Collis & Co, Birmingham 1835, estimate £2,000-£3,000. Following on, is a private collection of 28 lots. Featuring early spoons, a matched pair of caryatid candlesticks by John Cafe, London 1750 and 1754, estimate £3,000-£4,000, and a William and Mary silver tankard, by John Duck, London 1690, estimate £4,000-£6,000.
Finishing the two-day sale is a comprehensive 48 lot private collection, comprising flatware, hollowware, objects of vertu, old Sheffield plated items and continental silver. The final lot of the sale, is a large George IV silver salver, the cast border extensively pierced with grapes, cherubs and lion heads, classical female and male masks, estimate £3,000-5,000.
