A set of six George III silver soup plates, by Wakelin and Taylor, London 1783, circular form, gadroon border, engraved with a crest and coronet, diameter 25cm, approx. weight 128oz. (6) ** The coronet and crest is that of the 1st Marquess Downshire, an Irish title created in 1789 for the Statesman William Hill, (1718-93), PC, Earl of Hillsborough, sometime President of the Board of Trade and Plantations, Secretary of State for the Colonies and for the Southern Department.
