A Victorian Scottish 'Marrow Bone Club' silver marrow spoon,

£700 - £900

£1,143

A Victorian Scottish 'Marrow Bone Club' silver marrow spoon,
by William Cunningham, Edinburgh 1840,
the terminal with the applied marrow bone motif below the motto 'Nil Nisi Bonum', the front with an engraved armorial and dated '1835', the reverse of the terminal inscribed 'Archibald Davidson', length 23.3cm, approx. weight 3.6oz.

The Marrow Bone Club was a small elite club based in Edinburgh in the mid-1830s. Due to the quality of the scoops produced from the private die and the rarity of them, it is believed the club was small and very exclusive, with some members being of high legal notoriety with some Lords of Session.
