A matched set of eight George II/III circular dinner plates with gadrooned borders and an engraved coat of arms *, by George Methuen, London 1756/1761 (the reverses with engraved numbers and scratch weights), 9.75in (25cm) diameter, 138oz. (8) * The arms are those of Russell impaling Gower quartering Leveson, for John 4th Duke of Bedford K.G. (1710-1771) and his second wife Gertrude (d. 1794), daughter of John, 1st Earl Gower (1694-1754, whom he married in 1737.
