A fine Italian embroidered silk hanging
A fine Italian embroidered silk hanging, in the Arts & Crafts style reviving the 17th century Venetian silkworks, on a linen ground, decorated with scrolling flowers and foliage, some flowerheads worked with French knots, late 19th / early 20th century, 305 x 176cm.
Provenance: Sir Russell Hornby of Barraclough, Clitheroe, Lancashire who inherited it from his maternal uncle, 'Count' Redmond Toler Clayton-Browne Clayton of the Villa La Punta, Cervara, Santa Margherita, Ligure, Italy.
